The Thüringer Bauernhäuser is the oldest open-air museum in Germany. In surrounding villages, the half-timbered buildings threatened by decay were dissembled in 1914/15, and then re-assembled here. The museum uses original furniture and objects of everyday life to illustrate the rural lifestyle in the Thuringian region. The interior of an old village pharmacy is particularly worth seeing.
